Influx : A mainstay of the south coast underground rap scene, Influx has held down live shows with the UK hip hop royalty such as Dr. Syntax, Jehst, Taskforce and Stig of the Dump. Ripping it solo and as part of the Nameless Faces crew, Influx is a seasoned performer with an impressive catalogue of live shows already under his belt. His 2008 EP 'Cascade' is still available from his MySpace. Press1 : Press1 is no stranger to fans of the burgeoning UK battle-rap scene, having made a name for himself in the now-defunct Jump Off Street Battles as well as putting in impressive turns in the thriving Don't Flop Rap Battle League. The aggression he brings to battles is nicely juxtaposed with the deeply poetic, introspective tone he adopts on a lot of his tracks. Anyone whose influences list takes in Jedi Mind Tricks AND Jeff Buckley has got to be worth a listen. The Ruby Kid : was once compared by Sheffield-based music zine Sandman to both Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg in the same article, and has not shut up about it ever since. Some claim that his career since, which has seen him support artists such as Themselves (Anticon), Rodney P, Kid Acne and (soon) Anti-Pop Consortium, bears out the comparison. Others argue that it merely served to inflate the ego of an already far-too-egotistical upstart. Come and judge for yourself. Proceeds from the evening will be going to support
the activity of Workers' Liberty, a small Trotskyist organisation committed
to the revolutionary overthrow of capitalism by the organised working
class. But if you're not on board with that, you should still come along;
listening to all this dope hip hop for just £6 is surely worth the
potential unease of knowing that you will have directly funded some left-wing
extremists. |

Entrofobesse : Hailing from the mystical Sicilian town of Niscemi, Entrofobesse are at the forefront of the Italian underground music scene. They released their debut album 'Behind My Spike' on Italian indie label Wild Love Records in 2009, to critical acclaim in their homeland. Playing live they possess a fresh and violent post-rock sound combining all the best of Nirvana, Shellac and Fugazi. Not to be missed by fans of original alternative/post-rock tunes. Jackpine
: Fellow Sicilians Jackpine are a guitar/drums duo playing
ferocious yet deft music reminiscent of Two Gallants or Cheval de Frise.
They released their debut EP on Wild Love Records in 2009, and have continued
to entertain those with an ear for the unusual in rock music around Italy
and beyond. |

The not to be missed, Charity Event of the year
CHAFING PAVEMENTS introduces a star studded line up of four top local
bands ! Silicon
Kid : London based six piece who make music that is at home
with both The Stooges and Elbow via Bloc Party, Radiohead and Kasabian.
It is as epic and grand as it is riotous and rocking. The sound combines
razor guitar riffs, sharp synths and strong, emotive vocals. Backed by
a tight and fierce rhythm section. Forming under a new line-up in late
2008 they've recently returned to gigging after taking time off to record
an album's worth of material. Trail : After 9 months raising £20,000 on slicethepie.com Trail attracted the interest of multi-platinum producer Matt Wallace (Faith No More/Maroon 5) and flew to LA to record their début album - "To the Rest of the World". The London-based 5-piece are now gigging heavily and promoting their second single "City" taken from that album (released on Feb 22). Little Victories : “Little Victories blend dance beats with effortless pop melodies and acoustic guitars that stay with you long after you hear them. Expect a live show which demands that you get on the floor and dance.” Gerry
Howell (Comedian ‘Gez’) : Gerry Howell’s
performances lie somewhere between Mr Fantastic and the mysterious encyclopaedia
of Uqbar. His imagination casts itself far and wide as he recounts his
early years growing up in a post office or his experiences playing chess
with pandas. He can tell you how Shakespearewas born in an ostrich egg,
or about dressing up as an anagram for an evening out. Whilst his mind
flings itself from one delicious idea to another, you may find his body
cankering around the stage like a loose nugget of popping corn, or crawling
up the wall like a wild spider. Tread carefully and keep your ears to
the ground... |
